Push Notifications

Push Notifications

Step-by-step instructions for configuring your phone to receive ‘real-time’ notifications and how to use it.

This article is relevant for version 17 and above.
Sidekick or Escap provides multiple notification methods including “Banner” and “Feed”.

Banner/Push Notifications are messages sent in real-time directly to your mobile/cell phone and appear in your phone’s notification list (i.e. not in Sidekick /ESCAP but on your phone screen).

Feed Notifications are displayed as a number in a bell in the top right corner within Sidekick/ESCAP. By tapping the bell icon, you can access the list of notifications.

Push notifications are required to be set up on each mobile device.

To enable Push notifications on Sidekick or Escap you must first create a shortcut to your site on your device. This will act as the application you will use to submit, action and update requests. Please note that you must create a shortcut for push notifications to work.

If you are using an IOS device this must be on version 16.4.1 or later. You can check if your device is compatible here https://caniuse.com/push-api

Setting up an IOS Device.

Open your preferred supported browser and navigate to your Sidekick or Escap URL.

1. One the home screen you should see the share button (  )
2. Scroll down until you see Add to Home Screen.
3. Give your application a name and press Add.

Subscribing to Push Notifications

Open the shortcut you just created from your device and login.

1. Navigate to Preferences > Notifications

2. Tick Enable notifications.

3. Click to Subscribe this device.

Choose what type of notifications you would like to receive.

Allocation – When Work is Allocated to the user.

Escalation – When work is escalated to the user (Generally only Supervisors and Managers will have this enabled)

Allocation to Department – When work is assigned to the department (Generally only Supervisors and Managers will have this enabled)

Completion – When work the user has requested is completed.

Update – When work the user has requested is updated.

Each Notification type can have either a Banner and Feed, Feed Only or No Notification selected. Email Notifications can also be controlled.
You will now be notified in real time directly to your device.

When multiple users share the same device, a user will need to subscribe the device each time they log in, in order to receive their notifications. This will prevent the delivery of unnecessary notifications to multiple users while sharing the same device.

 Notification Feed

To view all of the notifications which have been received, select the bell icon

The number of unread notifications will display over the bell icon. The notification count will decrease and the background color of a notification will change whenever the notification is selected from the feed
